First I'd like to start with some definitions.

1. Adaptation: Converting a work of fiction or nonfiction from one medium to another. Example, book to movie

2. Remake: A story based on an original work, same characters, same plot, different execution.

With that out of the way, I'd like to begin this rant.

Modern adaptations suck.

By and large every single adaptation of a story I've seen is not at ALL faithful to the original story.

Hunger games was decent, as was LOTR. Since then though, YUCK.

Movies based on books:

Percy Jackson completely changed the timeline of the series, as well as skipping books, and changing core details.

Bourne, GREAT movies on their own, but compared to the original stories? Good god are they completely different. If I'd read the books first, expecting the movie to be an adaptation, I would be very dissapointed.

Spiderwick Chronicles. Skipped half the books, redid the story, and were still mediocre movies at best.

The Chronicles of Narnia. Skipped half the books and never finished the series.

Pretty much any disney movie ever. All the original Grimm stories were dark as HELL.

Shows based on books:

The Dexter series. Nothing like the books. Literally the first season was as close as it got to being book accurate. Still a good show, not unlike Bourne in execution.

The Percy Jackson series. The casting was ASS. ABSOLUTE ASS. Annabeth was white in the book, with blonde hair. They made her black. The rest of the cast was no better. Annabeth wasn't the brainy character either. Percy was supposed to be new to the world, not all knowing.

The Walking Dead. First 7.99 seasons were great. The ending sucked. Alot of the characters were race swapped and gender swapped. As a show, great. Not the best copy of the OG media.

Avatar the last Airbender. Fans of the og series know the adaptation was horrible. It doesnt compare to the original material in the slightest.

Video game to series

Last of us. The casting SUCKED. The acting sucked.

Remakes/sequels

Home alone. Simply stood on its own.

12 Angry Men, race swaps

Annie, race swap.

Little Mermaid, race swap.

Snow White, race swap.

Cinderella, race swap.

Spiderman, race swap.

Parent trap, Godawful compared to the OG.

They do NOT need to swap the races of major characters. It's a waste of white talent and beauty, it makes the black people look bad by default because they cant be compared to the originals. It is meaningless.

Especially when the originals were all GOLD.

In Conclusion

Some Remakes and Adaptations can be really good. Like really good. Most of the time I feel they spoil the original media. Race swaps, gender swaps, and fucked up timelines.
